Customer Rating: Summary: Best Ocarina Book Comment: 101 Songs for the Ocarina is a fasinating book for musicians and non-musicians alike. One need not know how to read music to learn to play the little ocarina flute like a pro. By following the clear diagrams of which of the 4 holes to cover for different notes, the reader can quickly learn to play any of the songs in the book. Since the songs are all well-known, the player will know without notation how to play the rhythm. As a music teacher, I can really appreciate the ease with which a student can learn to play this intrument using the book 101 Songs!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Songbook Comment: I had an Ocarina for years and didn't learn how to play it, until I got this songbook. Everything is in here and I played all the songs one after the other. I like the selection of songs. Other Ocarina songbooks I looked at had just kiddy songs and folk tunes, but this book has songs from the 60's, international songs, songs from movies and musicals, classical music etc.
The history of the Ocarina flute is interesting. I didn't know it was from Italy and was invented so long ago. This songbook also shows you how to take sheet music and change it to fingering charts, if you read music. But you don't have to read music to play the songs, they are all in fingering charts.
Over all - highly recommended for kids and grownups who are young at heart.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fun and easy to use Comment: I bought the songbook for my 7 year old granddaughter and she started to play the songs right away. The book is well organized and has trendy songs. It has all the instructions that anyone would need to play the Ocarina. It's really not just for kids, I played some songs on it myself and it's a lot of fun.
Customer Rating: Summary: Simply excellent! Comment: At last, a meaty product is served up for those who are learning to play the ocarina and for those who have been playing --with desires to branch out into new songs! This, I believe, is the best song selection book that can be found ANYWHERE! Everyone interested in playing the ocarina should buy this friendly, encouraging little book. The "music" fonts are easy to read, especially for eyeglass wearers, and the book is of a comfortable, flexible size for playing. Favorite songs from this collection are these: "Amazing Grace," "Rocky Top Tennessee" --let all Vols fans cheer for that one; "Greensleeves;" "My Heart Will Go On;" "Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree;" "La Bamba..." It's a nice mix of mix for beginners and more advanced players.
The more I use this book, the more I enjoy it and appreciate its talented author.
